I have been building, burning and booting on a single CD-RW (and rebooting and rebooting), and I cannot verify whether or not HWPnP was hidden somewhere in the original clean build. You have me worried (or a little embarrassed). Its work has already been done, and you have been using it all along, maybe without thanks for your input. If this is right, then I guess that there is no reason to run HWPnP as a standalone program. I may be wrong, but I believe that hw.bat is one of the programs called by vpeldr.exe on startup before it sets up the shortcuts. run hwpnp.exe in normal window without parameters and wait when program will be finished." Do you think that this is a "red herring"?Īnyway, even if HWPnP seems redundant to you, I would like to try it.

What has me more confused is Nightman's "bonus: manual sample.

Paraglider, are you saying that the InfCacheBuilder is not necessary because "VistaPE Driver Integrator" does the same thing? Will your HWPnP work along side the Integrator (ie. Next I will try my USB TV Tuner! What for?
HWPNP.EXE DOWNLOAD DRIVERS
I have it pointing to my RAID Drivers (working at boot), Bluetooth Drivers (not working), Display Drivers (working after manually reinstall after boot), Sound Device (not working), TouchPad Drivers (working at boot, I think), and some others. I am very happy with the "VistaPE Driver Integrator".

In VistPE, I have located the Drivers for my Modem in "Boot X:\Windows\ ? File Repository ? (not sure of the exact path from memory). And I have found the name of my Modem in the list, under "Non-Plug-and-Play Devices", but that fails also. I do, however, see "mdminst.dll" in the list, but it also fails. When I select to reinstall the drivers from a list, I do not see "Modems" or "Sound Devices" in the list.

They both cause an error: "The class installer registry is invalid". The two notable exceptions are my Modem and my Sound Device. Many of these problem devices like "System devices", "Batteries", and my "Display Adaptor" can be properly installed by double-clicking and selecting "Reinstall Driver". When I boot the VistaPE-Beta CD, I go to Computer Management > Device Manager, and I see a lot of Devices with yellow exclamation marks. I have disabled NightMan's new "Drivers Pack". I have also added ctv99's "VistaPE Driver Integrator" from to my C:\Winbuilder\Projects\VistaPE-Beta\App. My source is Vista RC1 DVD, and I'm currently using WinBuilder 070 and VistaPE-Beta 009 scripts (manually downloadable from ). I never thought that I could browse the internet by simply booting a CD, but I can! Amazing! I have used HWPnP in BartPE, along with Sherpya's "Build Scripts" which includes InfCacheBuild, and aec's Dialup Support. You use the vistape driver integrator to inject drivers into vistape.

I understand that in order to run hwpnp, we also need Sherpya's InfCacheBuild. Secondly, where do we put the above script so that hwpnp.exe will autorun?

TXTAddLine,%AutoRunFile%,'1|s|HwPNP|s|X:\Windows\System32|s|hwpnp.exe|s|','Append'(run hwpnp.exe in normal window without parameters and wait when program will be finished)įirstly, how do we install hwpnp.exe into VistaPE? I have seen scripts from Smiley and HighwayStar, but I think that they are for XP Projects, not Vista Projects. If,notExistFile,%AutoRunFile%,FileCreateBlank,%AutoRunFile% I think that I need Plug-and-Play detection.
